The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project in Bur Dubai, marking the inauguration of the fifth and final bridge at the Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street intersection.
This milestone signifies the completion of all project phases, resulting in a reduction in travel times along the corridor from 80 minutes to just 12 minutes.
RTA director general and chair of the board of executive directors Mattar Al Tayer said: “The corridor serves Deira and Bur Dubai, as well as several major development projects, including Dubai Islands, Dubai Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Port Rashid. The total population served by the project is estimated at one million. The corridor’s development facilitates free-flowing traffic along the entire route, increasing capacity from 6,400 vehicles per hour to 24,000 vehicles per hour.
“It will also reduce travel time from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes by 2030, while enhancing road safety. The projected economic benefit from reduced travel time is valued at Dh45bn [$12.25bn] over 20 years.”
The RTA is also advancing with the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel project, which will extend from the end of the Infinity Bridge ramp in Deira to the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Cairo Street.
The tunnel, measuring 1,650m, will feature three lanes in each direction. Simultaneously, construction has begun on entry and exit points for Dubai Islands between Infinity Bridge and the Port Rashid redevelopment area.

By GlobalDataThe final bridge within the Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street intersection development project is part of a larger construction effort that included five bridges with a total length of 3.1 km and a combined traffic capacity of approximately 19,400 vehicles per hour.
The project also enhanced surface-level intersections and added two pedestrian bridges to improve mobility and safety.
Recently, the RTA completed key intersection upgrades along Al Shindagha Corridor, including the intersection between Sheikh Rashid Road and Oud Metha Street, which features a 700m long bridge with three lanes extending from Oud Metha Street towards Sheikh Rashid Road.
The RTA has also completed the intersection of Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road and Al Mina Street, known as Falcon Intersection, which involved the construction of three bridges and a tunnel with a total length of 2,575m and a combined traffic capacity of 28,800 vehicles per hour.
The Infinity Bridge, another RTA achievement, is distinguished by its signature infinity-shaped arch and accommodates 12 lanes, a cycling track, and allows for a navigation channel for vessels into Dubai Creek. The bridge required 2,400 tonnes of steel for its construction.
The double-deck route extending from Infinity Bridge across to Deira comprises six lanes in each direction, integrating with Al Khaleej Street and facilitating access to the Deira Waterfront project.
Five bridges have been constructed to provide direct entry and exit points to Dubai Islands, with a total length of 2,571m and a capacity of approximately 20,700 vehicles per hour.
The Al Khaleej Street Tunnel project is currently 30% complete and will ensure smooth traffic flow between Infinity Bridge and Deira. The project will serve key areas and developments, including Dubai Islands and Al Hamriya Port.
A new bridge project has commenced to provide direct access to Dubai Islands from the Bur Dubai side, featuring four lanes in each direction and a dedicated pedestrian and cycling path.
