The office buildings will form part of the Sunderland City Council-led masterplan to build over one million ft2 of office space across the Riverside Sunderland development that will create workspaces for nearly 10,000 people.

The Riverside Sunderland masterplan aims to create a “transformational” mixed-use development in Sunderland that will include 1,000 new homes, parkland and a library dubbed Culture House.

Upon receipt of the planning consent approval, work on the office project is expected to commence early next year and the completion is planned for summer 2022.

Legal & General senior development manager Mike Coplowe said: “Riverside Sunderland is a hugely ambitious development and these plans reflect that delivering exceptional modern office spaces that we are sure will be attractive to businesses looking for a workplace that is good for the well-being of their team, as well as for the planet.”

dn-a architects chief executive Stuart Mclarty said: “These compelling new buildings will set an exemplar standard for Sunderland and the North East.

“They have been conceived with the wellbeing of the user and the environment at the core of the design and will deliver ‘zero carbon in use’, with an all-electric building, concept.

“We are very excited to be part of this development and the extraordinary wider regeneration masterplan that will put Riverside Sunderland at the forefront of workplace demand.”
