Denver International Airport has appointed global construction consultant Turner & Townsend as project controls partner as the airport plans to expand its capacity by 40%.

As passenger traffic is returning to pre-pandemic levels, DEN is preparing to handle 100 million annual passengers between 2030 and 2035 through a programme of expansion of its terminal capacity.

Denver International is the second largest airport in the world in terms of area and has the longest runway in the US.

In 2021, the airport served 58.8 million passengers and was the third busiest airport in the world.

According to an airport spokesperson, with a $20m capacity, this three-year contract comes with two options of one year extensions, reported The Denver Gazette.

Besides planning the delivery of schemes, the consultancy will be responsible to create a Centre of Excellence and Equity in Aviation, a $40m project that is scheduled to break ground in the airport’s Hotel and Transit Centre this year.
