UK consultant Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Crossrail, a 50/50 JV between Transport for London and the Strategic Rail Authority, to provide multidisciplinary design services for the ambitious Crossrail line 1 project. The line involves construction of an estimated 9km long, 6m diameter rail tunnel under London from west to east. A second route is also being developed, Crossrail line 2, that will run north-east to south-west across the capital. The JV has been allocated $215.6M by central government to carry out the feasibility work on both lines.
