Crate Modular has teamed up with school developer Education Facilities Group (EFG) to build a 23,000ft2 modular education building for the Girls Athletic Leadership School (GALS LA) in Los Angeles, US.

This new two-storeyed educational building will have seventeen modern classrooms built from repurposed shipping containers.

The classrooms will feature open space with ample natural light and full-height glazing.

Crate claimed that it follows a modular construction and streamlined approach to expedite schedules, and therefore for educational entities such as GALS LA, this approach implies deployment of buildings faster, and opening schools sooner.

Crate Modular CEO Rich Rozycki said: “We are always enthusiastic to take on education projects.

“Right now, there is a great need for more space and classrooms in the education system. The challenge is building while keeping school schedules intact, but with a modular approach, fabrication is swift.”

EFG has experience in developing schools in California including the Renaissance Arts Academy in Los Angeles.

For EFG, the GALS LA facility will be the first education project that would be modularly built.

Rozycki further added: “GALS LA will better exemplify how education facilities can be delivered both cost-efficiently and quickly, while also maintaining a beautiful and high-quality infrastructure.

“We are excited to add GALS LA to our fast-growing portfolio of meaningful projects. Projects like these are incredibly rewarding – good schools contribute to thriving communities. We are always happy to be part of community building.”
