Construction work has completed of The Fountains, a $425m project at the former Brooklyn Developmental Center site in New York, the US.
The redevelopment of a six-acre complex features 1,163 homes across several buildings, almost 22,000ft2 of commercial space and a new public plaza.
The project has kept 192 apartments aside as supportive homes for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said: “The Fountains are the embodiment of our commitment to provide equal opportunity for each and every New Yorker, and this complex goes above and beyond to provide quality, affordability, and access to the resources needed to live healthy and successful lives.”

Opened in 1973 as a residential care and treatment facility for people having intellectual and developmental disabilities, the 35-acre Brooklyn Developmental Center was closed in 2015 following a shift in the country’s housing policy toward integrated supportive housing.

It was developed by the Arker Companies, which paid $10m for the property that was earlier owned by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.
Built over several phases, The Fountains complex includes 1,163 apartments across six residential buildings.
Most of these apartments are affordable to households that earn at or below 60 percent of the Area Median Income. Eighty-five homes are allocated for households earning up to 100%. Adults aged 62 or above have been reserved with 200 apartments.
The complex also features Schroeder’s Walk, a one-acre public plaza that extends Schroeder’s Avenue for pedestrians.
It also consists of 21,700ft2 of new ground floor commercial space and off-street parking.
