Sydney Metro has announced the start of construction works on new Sydney Metro Trains Facility (SMTF) South Yard at Marrickville in Australia.
The new facility will have the capacity to accommodate 16 driverless trains, with provision to execute some small maintenance and cleaning works.

Currently, construction works are underway for the new buildings that also includes a maintenance workshop and a water treatment plant.
All major train maintenance works will be carried out at SMTF at Rouse Hill, which will continue to be the main train stabling location.
SMTF at Rouse Hill is being further expanded to support the extension of metro rail from the end of the Metro North West Line at Chatswood and beyond to Bankstown.
As part of this initiative, additional railway tracks will be laid at the maintenance facility and the stabling yard at Rouse Hill.

Expansion of Rouse Hill facility is expected to be completed later this year.
The Rouse Hill facility expansion project is being executed by Sydney Metro’s Line-wide contractor Systems Connect.
In March this year, Sydney Metro secured two planning approvals for the Sydney Metro West Project Concept from Westmead to the Sydney CBD, and to perform station excavation and tunnelling works between Westmead and The Bays.
Additionally, it obtained planning approvals for two planned precast facilities at Eastern Creek to support the construction of Sydney Metro West.
