The Western Australian Government has announced the start of construction on Piara Waters Secondary School in southeastern suburb of Perth.

The first phase of the new secondary school is estimated to cost $46.3m (A$60m) and will house 750 students and 50 education support students.

In the stage one, administration block, education support centre, student services centre, library, hard courts, food and technology areas will be constructed.

It will also include construction of information resource centre and staff room, learning areas, an oval and car parking.

The school, which is scheduled to be opened in 2023, is part of the state government’s investment in public education infrastructure, where it has currently invested more than $1.15bn (A$1.5bn).

It is designed by Australian architect With_Architecture Studio and construction of the new secondary school is being managed by Perkins Builders.

Piara Waters Secondary School will complement three new primary schools in the area that include Aspiri Primary School, which was opened in 2019; North Harrisdale Primary School that was opened this year; and Forrestdale South East Primary School (planning name) is planned to be opened next year.
