Network Rail has announced the construction of a new £1.3m platform at Barrow Haven station in North Lincolnshire, UK. This is a part of an important project to boost passenger experience and make train travel more attractive. Barrow Haven station’s current platform will be replaced with a new, 60m-long structure. This project is aimed at revitalising the station and ensuring that people staying in the area continue to remain connected to the railway for several years in the future, stated Network Rail. Trains will not call while the renovation work is being undertaken. Work will continue until August. Network Rail North & East route director Matt Rice said: “We’re giving Barrow Haven station a much-needed update, which I hope will encourage more people in the area to travel by train. It’ll bring a more modern, practical station with better amenities, and I’m excited to see the work now underway. “We’ve worked closely with East Midlands Railway to keep the impact as low as possible, for passengers as well as those living nearby. I’d like to thank people for their support and apologise for any inconvenience our work causes.” Along the length of the platform, elevated tactile paving will be also added to aid visually impaired passengers to recognise when they are close to the edge, thereby making the station much safer for everybody. East Midlands Railway (EMR) is providing a fund of £26,000 for additional station upgrades, including a new waiting shelter, cycle racks and station signage along with a solar-powered help point. EMR transition and projects director Lisa Angus said: “We’re delighted to see this significant set of customer improvement works improving Barrow Haven station on our Barton-on-Humber route. “As the station will be closed during this time, we’re encouraging passengers to travel to the nearest stations, New Holland (2 miles away) and Barton-on-Humber (4 miles away) if possible. Taxis will be provided for any passengers unable to do so. “We would like to thank our passengers for their patience whilst the works are taking place.”
