Construction has begun of a new tower that will house new children’s hospital on MU Health Care’ main hospital campus on the corner of Hitt and Lake streets in Missouri.
The new facility is expected to open in the summer of 2024.

MU Health Care CEO Jonathan Curtright said: “At the heart of our Children’s Hospital is our mission to save and improve the lives of children and their families so each child can live the healthiest, most fulfilling life possible.
“This brand-new Children’s Hospital will reimagine the way we deliver pediatric care and bring together all of our highly specialised teams.”
The plan to relocate the new Children’s Hospital from Keene Street is part of a larger effort to create one centralised hospital campus where resources, technology and specialists are co-located for patients, thereby enabling a completely coordinated care.
Among the features of the building include a kid-friendly entrance for check-ins; an ADA accessible shuttle to help families to and from their vehicles; interactive clinic areas with toys and furniture; a special outdoor areas for kids to play as well as flower gardens and additional spaces to relax.

While the new Children’s Hospital will open only in 2024, a few services will commence moving in a few weeks as part of a three-year transition to bring children’s and women’s services to the main hospital campus.
The first phase in November involves moving paediatric services, including emergency services, inpatient services and ICU, the Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Unit.
Women’s services, including the labour and delivery unit, and the NICU will shift to main campus following the opening of new tower in 2024.
