London Borough of Tower Hamlets has selected Bouygues UK to build the 94 council home Locksley D, which is the fourth phase of the £37.1m project.

As part of the Locksley D project, Bouygues will transform a previously unused patch of land, into an affordable housing development with over eight storeys and 17 units of affordable housing.

The building will be a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments for locals and families who are part of the housing register. Construction work on the site is expected to begin in March 2021 and is anticipated for completion in November 2022.

The £8.4m Locksley D will be the fourth new affordable housing development that the company will be constructing within Tower Hamlets. The previous three developments, Locksley A, Jubilee Street and Baroness Road, have been completed and occupied.

Bouygues UK CEO Rob Bradley said: “Having recently completed three affordable housing projects for the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, we are excited to build on this track record of delivering new, high-quality homes for local residents through Locksley D.

“We’re proud of our commitment to Tower Hamlets, which has been reflected in the local employment and apprenticeship opportunities we have created through our construction programmes, and we look forward to delivering further on the borough’s commitment to build more housing.”

The company is also converting the former Royal London Hospital site located in Whitechapel into the borough’s new Town Hall.

Tower Hamlets Mayor John Biggs said: “We’re delighted to see this project move forward as we work towards delivering 2,000 new council homes in the borough.

“We realise the huge demand for good quality, affordable homes for residents.

“This development will be 100% affordable with 17 new homes including six family-sized homes and two which will be wheelchair-accessible.”
