Hermes Airports in Cyprus has entrusted the Bouygues Bâtiment International-Iacovou Brothers consortium with a design-build contract for the second phase of the extension programme for Larnaka and Pafos airports.

The project aims to enhance the airports’ capacity to meet the increasing demands of air traffic.

Bouygues Bâtiment International is part of Bouygues Construction and specialises in complex building projects.

Valued at an overall amount of €170m ($190.38m), the share for Bouygues Bâtiment International in the project amounts to €119m.

The extension will enable Larnaka airport to handle up to 12.4 million passengers against the current 7.5 million annually while Pafos airport’s annual capacity will nearly double from 2.7 million to reach five million passengers.

The project will span 30 months at Larnaka and 27 months at Pafos, incorporating environmental design with the goal of obtaining Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method certification.

The Larnaka airport extension will include a three-storey addition for security checkpoints and retail expansion, as well as a new pier for boarding and arrival gates.

Pafos airport will see an extension for improved border control, security, and baggage delivery, along with commercial area redesigns and taxiway enhancements.

In a separate development, Destia has secured nine regional road maintenance contracts in Finland, worth €112m, to be executed from October 2025 until 2030.

Destia, a Finnish unit of Colas that itself is a subsidiary of Bouygues, will maintain roads and related environment across nine Finnish regions.

The scope of the work encompasses the upkeep of various road types, encompassing both asphalt and unpaved pathways. Extra work includes green areas, drainage systems, signage, and related infrastructure.

Additionally, in an eastern region of Finland, Destia will undertake the maintenance of a 7km ice road that connects two villages.

Bouygues Construction deputy CEO Pierre-Eric Saint-André said: “This project marks a new stage for Hermes Airports in the development of Larnaka and Pafos airports, which we already completed in 2009.

“It illustrates Bouygues Bâtiment International’s expertise in the design, construction and modernisation of large-scale airport infrastructures, in the service of a quality passenger experience.”

In the first quarter of 2025, Bouygues Construction reported €5.5bn in sales, marking a 3% increase from the prior year.
