Michael T Bertoulin, the Boston Central Artery/Tunnel Interstate 90 milestone manager, has described the estimated $100M cost increase due to the leaking Fort Point Channel Tunnel as "overly conservative" and "pessimistic". The figure was released in an independent draft audit carried out for state officials by accountancy firm Deloitte & Touch. Berttulin explained to the US press recently: "The tubes extend into the basin between 40ft to 140ft at a 45º skew, temporary grout bags may have been disturbed by the tides — there are 14-18 gaps letting in about 1,000gpm. We’re now reinjecting grout and completing verification drilling." The six immersed tubes will link the I-90 to Logan International airport.
