Norwegian road authority Nye Veier has selected BERINOR ANS, a joint venture of Besix and Rizzani de Eccher, to further develop the E6 Moelv-Roterud motorway project.

The project includes the main bridge over the Lake Mjøsa spanning 1.3km in length and an 11km section of four-lane motorway.

The 11km motorway includes widening of the existing infrastructure and constructing new ones. Additionally, there will be several smaller bridges and culverts along the alignment.

The concept of the bridge includes the use of structural timber, which is expected to make it one of the longest bridges in the world to use sustainable material. The project will include sustainable features, including limited greenhouse gas emissions and quality landscape integration.

Besix area manager in Europe Nic De Roeck said: “This is an important step in the project we signed today.

“It allows us to move forward together towards the realization of a bridge that will be remarkable and unique, especially from a technical and environmental point of view.

Besix and Rizzani de Eccher are associated with AF Gruppen, a Norwegian contractor along with designer and consultant Multiconsult and architect Knut Selberg.

In June this year, the joint venture BERINOR ANS was selected as the preferred contractor to deliver the project, which is expected to be completed in 2025.

In September 2019, Besix and Rizzani de Eccher had completed the Crown Princess Mary Bridge (Kronprinsesse Marys Bro) in Denmark.

The project included an 8.2km four-lane motorway and 1.4km bridge over the Roskilde fjord, the first cantilever bridge built in the country.

Through the E6 Moelv-Roterud project, Besix will expand its presence across Northern Europe, in Norway.
