Construction company BAM announced that it has paused all its activities at construction sites across the UK to review working practices necessary to reduce the risks of spreading Covid-19 (coronavirus).

The construction firm is keen on maintaining high levels of safety for its employees and their families, its supply chain and clients, along with the wider public. All of its operations are under constant review.

BAM said that it takes more time as detailed discussion and collaboration with clients, employees and its supply chain to enable safe working conditions set out by Public Health England and the new Site Operating Procedures developed by Build UK and the Construction Leadership Council.

Wherever work can be delivered as per the guidelines, it is anticipated that the sites will re-start from 30 March. This date will be kept under constant review, BAM said.

BAM’s facilities management activity across the UK has been assessed against the current guidelines and will continue.

Majority of BAM’s facilities management sites are government public sector buildings which are claimed to be critical in the UK’s national effort to fight the Covid-19.

In Belgium, BAM claims to have more than 100 projects in progress and it has registered the majority of its 1,200 site employees for temporary unemployment so that they are entitled to unemployment benefits from the National Employment Office.
