BAM Construction has broken ground on a new £19.95m Community Hub and Family Learning Centre in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Located in Wishaw in North Lanarkshire, the new purpose-built campus will provide shared facilities for Newmains and St Brigid’s primary schools and a nursery.

It will have capacity to accommodate approximately 484 primary school pupils.

The project aims to create denominational and non-denominational school environments for both primary and early years education.

The new Community Hub and Family Learning Centre is the first of three North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) education projects, with a cumulative value of £60m.

It is BAM Construction’s first contract with Hub South West, a public-private partnership of local authorities and contractors, having joined its list of suppliers last year.

BAM Construction Scotland regional director Jim Ward said: “We are delighted following the 18-month pre-construction period to be commencing works on Newmains and St Brigid’s Community Hub.

“We have been so impressed with the commitment of the design team, hub South West and in particular North Lanarkshire Council’s drive to make this project happen.

“We are totally committed to delivering a quality facility along with delivering meaningful social value to the local community and leaving a lasting legacy that the community will be proud of whilst inspiring the next generation of young learners.”

Recently, BAM was awarded a £95m contract by commercial property firm W.RE for the redevelopment of a 230,000ft2 St Pancras Campus in Camden, London.

The scope of work under the contract involved construction of offices, retail and two separate residential buildings transforming an underutilised industrial estate on a 1.2 acre self-contained ‘island’ block near St Pancras Hospital.
