Ball Corporation has started construction of aluminium can manufacturing facility at the SEGRO Park Kettering Gateway in Northamptonshire, UK.

Following construction, this facility will be the ‘largest ever’ beverage packaging plant in the country and is expected to provide 200 local jobs.

This 56,000m2 facility is slated to be completed by January 2023.

The plant will produce over one billion of recyclable cans in its first year of operation.

Ball is working with public services including Job Centre Plus to give employment opportunity in the local area.

The technology to be used in this plant will require 20% lesser energy and 70% lesser water than the regular can making approaches.

Ball Beverage Packaging Europe Middle East, Africa and Asia (EMEA) president Carey Causey said, “As environmental awareness increases, consumers are insisting on more sustainable drinks packaging.

“This new facility, in one of the UK’s best-known manufacturing locations, will help us to support our customers’ growth, creating fully recyclable cans which can play a role in a truly circular economy and support the local community.”

This facility will be the company’s third can-making plant in the UK after those in Milton Keynes and Wakefield.

The Kettering plant will also take the total count of the company’s facilities in the EMEA region to 26.
