The 123km-long motorway from Sibiu to Pitesti is situated on the Trans European Rhine-Danube Corridor, and will serve as one of the Europe’s most important links to the Black Sea.

The motorway is expected to be the first motorway through Carpathia and the first to connect Transylvania with Walachia.

Last year, Austrian contractor PORR has been awarded a contract to design and build Lot 1 of the motorway from Sibiu to Pitesti in Romania.

Under the contract, worth around €129m, PORR will be responsible for the design and construction of the four-lane section from Sibiu to Boita in the heart of Romania.

The scope of the work involves the installation of 12 bridge structures, including a 650m-long viaduct over a valley as part of the motorway as well as a bridge over the road. Work on the project is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
