Design consultancy Arup, in collaboration with Norwegian architectural companies Nordic Office of Architecture and Rodeo Arkitekter, has won the design competition for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation’s (NRK) new headquarters at Normannsløkka in Oslo.
The project encompasses the design of 60,000m² of gross floor area and 50,000m² of utility floor area, with a focus on developing contemporary specialist spaces, including studios, publishing desks, post-production facilities, concert studios, workshops, and warehouses.
The design of the new building will feature a four-storey base that aligns with the surrounding urban scale.
Above this, a recessed, circular upper structure will provide modern workspaces with views of Oslo, reflecting NRK’s brand through its distinctive form.
Arup’s UK architecture team is providing support in bringing this design to fruition, aligning with NRK’s vision for a future-proof workplace.
The HQ is expected to accommodate evolving media production technologies and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration among the corporation’s staff.

NRK has set a goal to relocate to the new headquarters by 2029.

Recently, Arup was also appointed as the primary engineering consultant for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission’s Millbrae Campus Improvements project in the US.
