Arup has been appointed as the primary engineering consultant for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission’s (SFPUC) Millbrae Campus Improvements project in the US.
The UK-based design consultancy will collaborate with San Francisco Public Works (SFPW) and its Bureau of Architecture, contributing to the engineering of new buildings and providing speciality engineering design services.
The awarded project encompasses the retrofitting and renovation of existing facilities, as well as the construction of two new buildings, including an administrative office, water quality laboratory, and a wellness pavilion.
Arup and its subconsultants, encompassing engineer HRA Engineering & Energy Services, Vibro-Acoustics, Clearstory, lighting design consultancy Banks Landl, and AR Green, will deliver more than 20 multidisciplinary engineering and consulting services.
These services will range from structural mechanical engineering to acoustic, energy, and more.
Sustainability and resilience are part of the Millbrae Campus Improvements project, with goals such as achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification and implementing electrical resilience measures.

By GlobalDataArup will also advise on the implementation of a microgrid, building seismic resilience, and strategies to combat wildfire smoke and extreme heat.
The project, which is currently in the schematic design and construction phase, is set to be executed in three phases and aims to maintain the site’s functionality throughout the process.
The final phase is expected to be completed by 2031.

Last month, J.P. Morgan Asset Management appointed Mace to execute a building reuse project at 65 Gresham Street in the City of London, UK. Arup, as part of the project team, is overseeing services engineering for this project.
