The 20,000m² project, linked by four jetty pipelines, is located only 500m from Jebel Ali Port Chemical Berth #4.

The bulk storage terminal will have a total capacity of nearly 40,000m3 (CBM), of which 35,000CBM will be in bulk storage tanks and about 5,000CBM in ISO tanks and drums.

The specialised petrochemical facility, which will be a turnkey and fully integrated distribution centre, can handle bulk imports and packed chemicals at high volume and has been designed to store flammable chemicals, up to NFPA Class 1B.

More than 100 chemicals of UN Class3 hazardous classification or non-hazardous chemicals can be stored in the nitrogen blanketed tanks of the facility.

DP World CEO and managing director UAE Region Mohammed Al Muallem said: “We are confident that this project will transform the business landscape of the petrochemicals segment that is underpinned by rapidly changing regulations, technology disruptions and evolving customer demands.”

AquaChemie Middle East has appointed UK-based consultancy Mott MacDonald to provide concept design, basic engineering, detailed engineering and project management contract services for the project.

Construction on the petrochemical terminal is scheduled to be completed by early second quarter of 2022.

The project is expected to create more than 250 jobs during its construction phase and will initially employ 60 people once operational.

AquaChemie Middle East aims to generate revenue of about $400m from the petrochemical terminal business in the next seven years.

AquaChemie project manager for the petrochemical terminal project Cherian George said: “Am looking forward to the commissioning of this state-of-the-art facility, with utmost importance to safety and quality, within the strict budget and time schedule. Moreover, we are fortunate to receive from DP World, UAE Region a very strategic location for our new project.”
