AMResorts breaks ground on two resorts in Dominican Republic

AMResorts, an Apple Leisure Group (ALG) company, has broken ground on two new resorts in Miches, on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic.

The two resorts, Secrets Playa Esmeralda Punta Cana and Dreams Playa Esmeralda Punta Cana, are ALG’s first AMResorts-branded properties in the region of the country. They will increase ALG’s total number of properties in the Caribbean to 20.

ALG said it has signed a total of 18 management deals in 2019, including for Secrets Playa Esmeralda Punta Cana and Dreams Playa Esmeralda Punta Cana.

ALG CEO Alejandro Reynal said: “These new deals underscore ALG’s unwavering commitment to the Dominican Republic and the goal of participating in unique projects that benefit our investors as well as the surrounding communities.

“We will be working closely with our partners, as well as Miches residents, to ensure we exceed the expectations of the guests, while also bringing true, long-term value to the area.”

The Secrets and Dreams-branded properties form part of the $400m Playa Esmeralda hospitality development, which will comprise nearly 1,500 hotel units, as well as a promenade, a theatre for live entertainment, retail offerings, and a fitness centre and spa.

Additionally, the Playa Esmeralda project is expected to create over 2,000 jobs in the region.

Each of the two new resorts will feature 750 luxurious rooms and suites including 250 accommodations exclusively for Preferred Club guests.

Designed with the adults-only concept, the Secrets Playa Esmeralda Punta Cana resort will comprise four distinct bar concepts, four snack bars and a private lounge for Preferred Club members.

The Dreams Playa Esmeralda Punta Cana resort will feature three snack bars, four bars, as well as its own Preferred Club lounge, an Explorer’s Club, and a Core Zone Teen’s Club.

ALG executive vice-president and chief strategy officer Javier Coll said: “Miches is poised to become one of the Dominican Republic’s top markets for all-inclusive resorts.

“This area has been largely overlooked, despite its significant attributes; however, our team’s long history and proven experience in this market has allowed us to identify and move on this opportunity."
