Amazon has received approval from the Arlington County Board for its plans to construct a helix-shaped tower as the centrepiece of its second headquarters (HQ2), in northern Virginia, US.
In 2018, the company announced that Arlington would be home to its HQ2, and more than 25,000 jobs are expected in the region.

The spiral-shaped building will integrate nature and work to inspire invention.
Its interior will provide formal and casual meeting spaces in an environment exceeding 25,000ft² of planting areas and living walls while the building’s exterior will feature two paths for employees.
Amazon said in a statement: “With the County Board’s approval, we look forward to continuing our work with the community as we take the next steps on this journey to build an integrated, innovative, and sustainable second headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
“As we prepare to take the next step in our more than $2.5bn HQ2 investment, we want to provide a snapshot of what the project will bring to the Arlington community and the wider region.”

Amazon contracted 82MW of energy from a new solar farm, which is located in Pittsylvania County, and has a capacity of 120MW.
International architecture firm NBBJ designed the glass tower, which will be part of a complex of three office buildings that will make up Amazon HQ2.
The 350ft tower has been designed to help connect people and nature.
As part of the design, a walkable ramp wraps around the tower.
