The Government of Alberta in Canada has announced an investment of $1.4bn (C$1.8bn) for the expansion and redevelopment of Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.
This investment is said to be the largest ever for an hospital expansion in the Canadian province.

Initially, $150m (C$193m) will be invested over the next three years to increase the hospital bed capacity from 370 beds to 570 beds.
The expansion will also see the creation of three new operating rooms at the hospital and increase surgical capacity to 14 operating rooms.
Additionally, a new cardiac catheterisation lab is being planned at the hospital as part of the expansion plan.
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said: “For too long, central Albertans have been waiting for these critical upgrades and expansion of the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

The next steps in the hospital expansion project includes functional programming and design.
Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre expansion is slated to be completed in 2030-2031.
