Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has begun early works of Power Station 5 (PS5) Block 4 Project in Bahrain, with the first concrete pour.

Alba chairman of the board of director Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Bin Daij Al Khalifa said: “We are pleased to carry out the first foundation concrete pour for PS5 Block 4 Project, thus debuting the kick-off of construction activities and other site works.”

A part of Alba’s decarbonisation initiatives, this project will be a combined cycle power plant with a hydrogen-ready J-series gas turbine technology.

With completion of construction expected in Q4 2024, this project is anticipated to cut down Alba’s total GHG emissions.

This project is expected to set the benchmark in terms of sustainable and efficient aluminium production while accelerating Bahrain’s goals of achieving net zero emissions by 2060.

The project’s commercial operations are anticipated to start in Q4 2024.
