Veidekke Entreprenør has secured a Nkr458m ($78.81m) contract from real estate developer Aspelin Ramm to build the Nordre Kvartal (Northern Quarter), a mixed-use building in Vulkan, Oslo, Norway.
The project spans a 29,000m2 area and includes a garage facility in the four lower floors, 5,000m² of commercial space in the form of offices and shops facing Maridalsveien, and 117 apartments topped by roof terraces. The apartments will have two to four bedrooms with balconies.

Under the terms of the contract, Veidekke will build the Northern Quarter using prefabricated steel and concrete elements; the building has been designed by LPO Architects.
The base of the building will be directed towards Vulkan and the facade will be facing towards Maridalsveien.
The structure will be clad in brick, while the façade of the housing units will be topped with light material to help reflect daylight down to Vulkan. Vulkan is the name of the old industrial area north of Mollerveien in Oslo between Maridalsveien and the Aker River.
Veidekke said the former steel industry centre is undergoing a complete redevelopment featuring new business and cultural venues as well as housing.
