Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) in collaboration with Ghafari Associates has won a contract from the Omani Government to prepare a master plan for an urban centre at Duqm to complement the industrial and marine hub on the Wusta coast of the country.

The City of Duqm is expected to accommodate 100,000 people by the year 2025, incorporating modern living amenities with a detailed transportation, road network, infrastructure and utilities plan.

The master plan will include broad distribution and zoning of a range of residential units, industrial activities and major educational facilities.

The plan will also incorporate space for commercial facilities, sports and recreational facilities, cultural and entertainment facilities, and amenities such as hospitals and places of worship.
