Saudi Arabia-based Fakieh Group has selected J/Brice Design International to design the interior of the new planetarium at the Al Shallal theme park in Jeddah.

Claimed to be the biggest in Saudi Arabia, the Al Shallal theme park features a double-loop rollercoaster, ice rink, child-friendly rides, shopping, magic shows and other entertainment, plus a range of upscale eateries at its European and Far East Villages.

J/Brice Design CEO and founder Jeffrey Ornstein said that the company will create the planetarium interior in an international style, keeping in view Jeddah’s role as a modern gateway city.

“The Fakieh Group is popularising learning about the cosmos by bringing the planetarium to where people gather for fun.”

“It will be contemporary and sleek, but without the expected futuristic visual cliches,” Ornstein said.

“Unlike the US, where planetariums are typically located within science museums and universities or as stand-alone educational institutions, the Fakieh Group is popularising learning about the cosmos by bringing the planetarium to where people gather for fun,” Ornstein added.

J/Brice projects in Saudi Arabia include the first Vienna-based Kempinski hotel and a new Luxury Hyatt hotel. Earlier, the firm designed the Grand Heritage Hotel and Spa for the royal family of Qatar, and completed the new Royal Tulip hotel in Alexandria, Egypt.

The Fakieh Group had earlier selected J/Brice Design for its Miami-inspired art-deco Ocean Drive restaurant and Japanese Zen bistro at its Sea Wonders Aquarium, located on Jeddah Corniche.
