Frito-Lay’s new distribution facility in Oahu, Hawai, has secured LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council.
The 55,000ft2 facility was built by US-based Haskell Company.
The facility incorporates photovoltaic panels to generate 10% of its electricity requirements and has been equipped with energy-efficient windows and skylights to allow natural light into the building.
The facility has a roof parking lot that helps reduce the amount of paving on the site; the parking lot has also been fitted with efficient LED lighting.
The facility uses low-flow plumbing systems that decrease water use, while materials were selected for recycled content, regional manufacture or low levels of volatile organic compounds.
