Club La Santa Sport

The 40,000m² extension of Club La Santa Sport on the Canary Island of Lanzarote, has opened.

Henning Larsen Architects designed the extension, which includes new suites and facilities for the club.

Commenting on the extension, Club La Santa managing director Frederik Sohns said: "We are seeing a mega trend all over Europe where a growing number of people of all ages are aware of the positive effects of sports, exercising and mindfulness, especially when it comes to ensuring a long and healthy life and a stress-free daily life."

The master plan features 96 new suites, a 250m indoor dance studio, a large outdoor area for the many aerobic, yoga and dance classes, as well as a new swimming stadium.

"Club La Santa Sport offers facilities and professional training for more than 30 different sports."

Other facilities include bungalows and restaurants, a golf training area, tennis courts, spas, sports and squash halls.

Henning Larsen said the sports hall, which will be used primarily for handball and badminton, is designed to use indirect daylight as a supplemental light source, to enable athletes who train all day to maintain a sense of time.

The squash courts will allow for other athletes to see the players, creating a degree of interaction between them.

The aerobics area has been designed as an amphitheatre where the participants are the audience of a traditional theatre and the instructor will be on stage.

The indoor spa features a traditional spa and a relaxation area, a jacuzzi, cold water pool, steam bath, sauna and handicap facilities.

The relaxation has areas for physiotherapy, massage, individual jacuzzis, and a resting area with a café.
