Construction work on the $267m Hospital Joan XXIII Redevelopment located in Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain commenced in Q2 2022. It was announced in Q1 2015.
The project involves the redevelopment of the Hospital Joan XXIII on a 5.5ha area with a total gross floor area of 72,000m2 in Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain.
The project includes the following:
1. Construction of the C healthcare building, an emergency healthcare building, a connecting bridge to C and emergency building access, and a medical office building in phase I
2. Construction of a seven-story healthcare building with a total gross floor area of 53,000 with 252 beds, a surgical block with 14 operating rooms, nuclear medicine facility with 20 radiodiagnosis rooms, cabinets, interventionism rooms, admissions rooms, general stores, a mortuary, medical offices, and workrooms, new unified access to emergencies and partial reform of emergencies, the boulevard connecting the buildings, the temporary heliport in phase II
3. Construction of the new research and teaching buildings laboratories in phase III
4. Installation of elevators
5. Installation of medical equipment
6. Installation of ventilation and security systems
Construction on the project, spread across 6 hectares, is expected to be completed by Q4 2026.
Owners of the project include Spain-based Catalonia Government Department of Health.
