A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11655190B2) discloses a hydraulic composition for use in additive manufacturing devices. The composition includes a binder consisting of 90 to 100% calcium aluminate and 0 to 10% cement, along with 0.5 to 10 parts of anhydrous gypsum per 100 parts of calcium aluminate. This hydraulic composition is capable of being molded into various shapes with reduced gas generation and graphite spheroidization defects.

In addition to the binder, the composition may also contain 100 to 400 parts of sand per 100 parts of calcium aluminate. The sand can be silica sand, olivine sand, or artificial sand. The calcium aluminate in the binder should have a molar ratio of CaO/Al2O3 between 1.5 and 3.0, while the cement should have a calcium silicate content of at least 25% by mass.

To accelerate the hardening process, the composition may include one or more hardening accelerators such as alkali metal carbonate salt, alkali metal lactate salt, alkaline earth metal lactate salt, or alkali metal silicate salt. Additionally, 0.1 to 1.0% by mass of hydrophobic fumed silica can be included in the composition.

The patent also describes a process for producing a casting mold using an additive manufacturing device and the hydraulic composition. The casting mold is formed by molding the composition into shapes arranged in horizontal planes, resulting in reduced gas generation and graphite spheroidization defects.

Overall, this patented hydraulic composition offers improved performance in additive manufacturing devices, allowing for the production of high-quality casting molds with reduced defects. The inclusion of specific ratios of calcium aluminate, cement, sand, and gypsum, along with the use of hardening accelerators, contributes to the enhanced properties of the composition.
