Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council filed the most modular construction patents within the construction industry in Q1 2024. The company filed 5 modular construction-related patents in the quarter, compared with 4 in the previous quarter. It was followed by LIXIL with 2 modular construction patent filings, China Railway Group (2 filings), and Toto (2 filings) in Q1 2024.

Patenting activity was driven by China with a 43% share of total patent filings

The largest share of modular construction related patent filings in the construction industry in Q1 2024 was in China with 43%, followed by the US (10%) and Japan (9%). The share represented by China was 53% lower than the 96% share it accounted for in Q4 2023.
