The global construction industry experienced a 36% rise in company filings mentions of social responsibility in Q1 2023 compared with the previous quarter, with the highest share accounted for by SEGRO with 24% year-on-year decrease, according to GlobalData’s analysis of over 729 construction company filings. Notably, social responsibility was one of the most frequently referenced themes in Q1 2023, ranking highest in terms of mentions, ahead of Covid-19 and internet of things, according to GlobalData.
Of the top leading companies in the construction industry, SEGRO had the greatest increase in references for social responsibility in Q1 2023, compared with the previous quarter. GlobalData identified 161 social responsibility-related sentences in the company's filings - 41% of all sentences - and an increase of 7900% in Q1 2023 compared with Q1 2022. Ferrovial’s mentions of social responsibility rose by 12600% to 127 and Assa Abloy’s by 8100% to 82 and 3M’s by 100% to 54 and CBRE Group’s by 100% to 28.
GlobalData’s Company Filings Analytics also applies sentiment weight to reference sentences, based on whether the sentences are positive, negative, or neutral. Starting at 100 in 2020, an index over 100 is more positive. The overall index for social responsibility in Q1 2023 was 91.
