Turner Construction has secured the Mann Middle School Whole Site modernisation project in San Diego, US, marking a continuation of its partnership with the San Diego Unified School District.

The modernisation of Mann Middle School, designed by California-based Sprotte+Watson Architecture and Planning, is set to commence in early 2026 with expected completion in early 2029.

The project will be delivered in phases and includes significant improvements to the campus, such as renovations to existing buildings as well as the construction of new facilities.

The scope of work for the Mann Middle School project includes the renovation of buildings 300, 400, and the 500 building, which is home to an auditorium.

A segment of Building 200 will be demolished, with the library remaining intact. An extension will be built to house updated restrooms and support spaces.

Furthermore, the project will involve the demolition of the current physical education building and the creation of a new PE locker building and gymnasium.

The new PE facilities are planned to feature accessible parking and entry points from Trojan Avenue.

In addition to the physical structures, the project will address upgrades to existing classrooms, special education classrooms, the auditorium, and food service facilities.

The improvements will encompass site accessibility, technology, communication infrastructure, and overall site work to enhance the student learning environment and campus functionality.

Turner K-14 Program Manager Fernando Delgado said: “We are honoured to be entrusted once again by the San Diego Unified School District.”

“Our team is excited to deliver a project that will have a lasting impact on students and the surrounding community. This effort exemplifies our commitment to building environments where learning can thrive.”

Last month, Turner Construction began work on the $150m New Frayser Community High School project in Memphis, Tennessee. The development, planned in two stages, will house 1,500 students.
