Albany Waterfront

The Western Australian Government has selected Diploma Group and Quest Serviced Apartments as preferred proponent for the Albany Waterfront project.

Diploma will be developer of the project while Quest Serviced Apartments will be the operator.

After completion, the waterfront will feature a hotel, restaurants, cafes, shops, a marina and an entertainment centre.

Plans also include a new pedestrian bridge linking Albany’s central business district to the waterfront and adjacent community facilities at Anzac Peace Park.

In June 2012, the government selected Hotel Development Group Albany (HDGA) as the preferred proponent to develop and operate the hotel.

The development also includes the Jetty Precinct, which will see Albany’s existing jetty redeveloped and connected to a waterside promenade.

Western Australia Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said that the government was working with LandCorp to bring high-quality tourist accommodation to Albany.

"Not only does the proposal offer four-star accommodation development, it allows for the activation of the waterfront area through a range of ground level commercial uses that appear to be well suited to the needs of the Albany community," Grylls said.

Grylls said that the government will now follow a 16-week due diligence process to ensure the proposal will deliver the best result possible for the site.

The government said it will take the final decision after completion of commercial negotiations.

The development will be managed by LandCorp and stakeholders include the City of Albany, the Albany Port Authority, the Great Southern Development Commission and the Department of Transport.
