The US Department of State has announced that it will build a new Kuwait Armed Forces Hospital at an estimated cost of $1.7bn.

The move is part of the foreign military sale offered by the US Government to Kuwait for the design, construction and procurement of medical, non-medical and IT equipment for the Kuwait Armed Forces Hospital, as well as its operation and maintenance.

"The new facility will provide…ambulatory and inpatient services, emergency medicine and clinical support activities for Kuwait military personnel."

The military hospital’s project management, engineering and other technical facilities and infrastructure services will be undertaken by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

The project will include a new central utilities plant, site utilities, site improvements, covered parking, parking access and roads, and an enclosed pedestrian circulation connector to link the new complex with the existing hospital.

The new facility will provide healthcare services such as ambulatory and inpatient services, emergency medicine and clinical support activities for Kuwait military personnel, their dependents and other eligible beneficiaries.

A unit of the Pentagon that manages foreign military sales, Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), has notified congress about the deal between the US Government and its Kuwait counterpart.

These services will be provided by USACE through both in-house personnel and contract services.
