The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum has broken ground for the first phase of an expansion and renovation programme in Newport, Rhode Island, US.
The tennis hall of fame has been part of Charles McKim’s Newport Casino since 1954.

As part of the expansion programme, the hall of fame will receive new tennis courts and facilities, while the museum will be upgraded with the latest technology and enhanced exhibition, with improved campus-wide amenities.
Among the different tennis courts are a new 16,000ft² tennis centre facing the Memorial Boulevard and a 21,000ft² open-span clapboard-clad prefabricated structure with three indoor tennis courts, three adjacent indoor/outdoor courts and an enclosed viewing area.
The tennis centre will feature shops, an entrance for spectators and players, shingle and clapboard facades with painted trim and double-hung windows.
The building will also have room for a pro shop, a lounge, a fitness centre, locker rooms, and hall of fame offices.

By GlobalDataInternational Tennis Hall of Fame board of directors chairman Christopher Clouser said this is the largest, most exciting project the International Tennis Hall of Fame has ever taken on.
"Overall, our goal within this project is to elevate the Hall of Fame as a must-see international destination for tennis fans, to offer improved experiences for our fans, and to ensure that the facility is an asset to our local community," Clouser said.
The design team, which includes RAMSA partners Robert AM Stern and Gary Brewer, plans to include a courtyard in future that will connect the recently restored casino theatre.
