The Vancouver Convention Centre West is the first building in the world to receive the LEED Platinum certification from the Canadian Green Building Council.
The scheme opened in April 2009 and was designed by US-based LMN architects in collaboration with Vancouver-based MCM and DA.

The scheme includes a six-acre living roof, which is the largest living roof in Canada and the largest non-industrial living roof in North America.
The building’s sustainable features include a drainage and water recovery system that has successfully reduced potable water use by 72.6%. 83% of the construction waste was diverted from landfill and a facility recycles 180,000kg of materials annually.
The scheme uses power generated from renewable sources including a seawater heating and cooling system.
The structure offers natural light and ventilation, and local BC wood products are used throughout the building.
