Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development & Investment Corporation has selected German contruction company Bauer for its Louvre Museum project on Saadiyat Island.

The 24,000m² Louvre Abu Dhabi — Abu Dhabi’s answer to the famous Louvre museum in Paris – has been designed by architect Jean Nouvel and features a complex of pavilions, plazas, alleyways and canals.

An 80m-diameter shallow dome, inspired by traditional Arabic architecture, will hover over the museum.

The 6,000m² exhibition area will showcase works borrowed from the Musée du Louvre and other French museums.

It will also feature 2,000m² space for temporary exhibitions by its French partner institutions.

The project was initiated after a cooperative cultural agreement was signed between the governments of UAE and France. It is scheduled for completion in 2013.
