A new project that brings young people into the world architecture while promoting the concept of a ‘green’ footprint has won one of the Enterprising Britain 2007 Awards for England’s south-west.

The Archimedia project, run by the Knowle West Media Centre in Bristol, has seen young people drive the design of the largest straw bale building built in the region.

Forty-three straw bales will be used to create the enterprise space for creative industries, training and meeting rooms, production suites, sound studios, exhibition and managed work spaces.

It will feature natural ventilation, a woodchip boiler system, solar heating and rainwater harvesting, according to the Knowle West Media Centre.
