General Electric has led a $22m investment round into Project Frog, which uses various technologies to speed up new building design and construction.
GE Energy Financial Services will be one of four companies to invest in the project; the other companies include Claremont Creek Ventures, Greener Capital Partners, and RockPort Capital Partners.
Project Frog uses software and construction tools to design buildings that meet specific performance requirements, such as energy efficiency, and can be assembled more quickly than typical buildings.
Project Frog’s technology improves traditional building construction methods by combining semi-custom designs with a pre-engineered kit of energy-efficient building components, enabling higher quality, more environmentally sustainable, faster and cheaper construction, according to GE.
Construction of the Project Frog building at GE’s John F. Welch Leadership Development Center is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
GE’s investment is part of the second phase of the Ecomagination Challenge launched by the company to improve building energy efficiency through new technologies.
