Construction firm Willmott Dixon, on behalf of the Peterborough Investment Partnership (PIP), has broken ground on a £65m housing and commercial space complex in Northminster, UK.

Apart from 37 townhouses, the project will feature 315 units consisting of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments.

The two ground floor units will feature commercial space openings for leisure and hospitality.

For this project, Willmott Dixon is working with architect Corstorphine & Wright.

Willmott Dixon plans to leverage “innovative construction methods to build better, greener, and smarter”.

The firm plans to make savings through pre-manufactured value that is anticipated to contribute to 63% of the project value.

Offsite elements such as a light-gauge steel frame, brick slips, and the use of bathroom pods, will help to ensure programme certainty, in addition to offering environmental benefits.

Partly funded by a £14m grant from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, the development is due to be completed in August 2024.

The Northminster development is the latest in a host of recent projects, including the construction of 430 apartments on the Perry Barr Residential Scheme, in Birmingham, and the Town House at Kingston University.
