Warden Construction has been selected by residential developer Fraser Morgan as the main contractor for the construction of a student accommodation scheme in Sheffield.

Following the award of planning consent, the 289-bed student living development will be built in Sheffield city centre at a cost of £26m.

Fraser Morgan secured the approval for the development scheme, which will be built on a site in Allen Street that is currently occupied by former industrial buildings.

The new facility will comprise five to seven storeys and be developed in the St Vincent’s Quarter of the city centre within walking distance of the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University campuses.

Fraser Morgan managing director Mark Robinson was quoted by insidermedia.com as saying: “We’re very proud of the design for this scheme which gained overwhelmingly positive feedback by members of the planning committee.

“These spacious studio apartments will offer something different to the typical mix of flats and houses that make up the student living market in Sheffield.”

“The entire scheme has a strong focus on promoting student wellbeing. It offers large communal areas for socialising, including a roof garden and gym, as well as green space inside and outside the development.”

Expected to be completed by August 2020, Warden intends to begin construction in February next year.

UK-based company David Cox Architects designed the scheme.

David Cox Architects director David Cox said: “Given the planning and site constraints, the building mass is pushed inwards to create a more interesting urban form.”
