Design and engineering firm Stantec has been selected to provide engineering services for the proposed $513.3m (A$695m) Edith Cowan University (ECU) City in Perth, Western Australia.

As a lead engineer, Stantec will be responsible for providing civil and structural engineering, as well as building and traffic planning services for the 60,000m² project.

Planned to be developed over two sites directly opposite Yagan Square, the ECU City will feature vast windows and galleries across 11 super-levels.

Construction on the ECU university campus is planned to commence this year with the opening slated in 2025.

Comprising performance spaces, studios and digital labs, the campus is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs during the construction phase.

With an intelligent façade design that provides sun shading, the building will feature an immersive entrance.

The campus plan features Cyber Security Operations Centre, a digital hub for global business education, motion-capture film studio, spatial sound lab, and next-generation technology programmes and labs.

The new campus is expected to attract more than 9,000 students and staff by 2025. This capacity is expected to reach more than 11,000 by 2034.

This project marks one of five contracts awarded under the Perth City Deal, a collaboration between the Australian and Western Australian governments to revitalise Perth Central Business District and create almost 10,000 jobs.

Stantec forms part of a consortium of architects and engineers that will design the project.

The design team of the project includes Lyons, Silver Thomas Hanley and Haworth Tompkins.

Marshall Day will undertake acoustic engineering work for the City Campus while Urbis will lead on town planning.

Donald Cant Watts Corke is responsible for providing quantity surveying services for the project.
