The Bullitt Foundation has commenced construction on its environmentally friendly new $30m headquarters in Seattle, US.

The six-storey Bullitt Center is designed to produce as much electricity as it uses and will capture rain water in a 50,000gal underground cistern to meet its water requirements.

Grey water will be filtered through a green roof and landscaping, and raw sewage will be composted and decontaminated before becoming fertiliser.

Seattle-based real estate company Point32 is supervising the construction, which is scheduled to be complete in late 2012.
