BAM Construction has been announced as the preferred bidder for a £15m contract from Scottish Water to build its National Operations Centre at Stepps, near Glasgow, Scotland.

The design of the four-storey, 7,300m2 facility incorporates a central atrium to maximise the use of natural ventilation and light.

The new building will feature a biomass boiler, thermal water heating and photovoltaic panels, and will make use of the thermal mass of its concrete frame.

The building also includes sustainable urban drainage systems and rainwater harvesting to enhance the facility’s environmental performance.

Construction work on the project is expected to complete by the third quarter of 2013.
