Bakersfield College in California, US, is reportedly set to open the new three-storey campus, BC SouthWest Center, for the upcoming semester.

BC SouthWest programme manager Leo Ocampo was quoted by The Bakersfield Californian as saying that the new centre features large windows and small ‘hangout spots’ along its halls, allowing students to congregate.

Located at the north-west corner of Camino Media and Scarlet Oak, the new 60,000ft² south-west campus forms part of Bakersfield College’s efforts to bring the college to its residents.

BC SouthWest instruction dean Jessica Wojtysiak said that the new campus’ physical space has an important role to play for the college.

Ocampo said that the new campus comprises about 50 classrooms that include larger lecture classrooms.

Services offered by the centre for students include admissions, counselling, financial aid education planning, among others.

In addition to serving as a hub for many veterinary tech programmes of the college, the campus offers lab facilities.

The first two floors of the new campus will be used to conduct the initial spring semester classes.

On the next floor, late classes are expected to be held and are planned to start in March.

Wojtysiak further added: “It’s amazing to watch how this has transformed.”

Last month, Bakersfield College unveiled plans and details for a new 27,300ft² centre, which will include five classrooms, a tutoring centre, a writing centre, computer labs, a library, a bookstore and dedicated space for Student Government.

Construction on the Arvin Educational Center located on Varsity Road is scheduled to start as early as July.
