The UK’s construction industry registered a 1.9% drop in IT hiring activity in May 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.43% in May 2022 when compared with April 2022.

Out of the construction industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.65% share in May 2022, recording a decrease of 0.09% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 36.69% in May 2022, registering an 8.08% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 29.03% share, an increase of 38.46% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 10.48%, registering a 36.84% rise from April 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 10.48%, down 21.21% over the previous month.

Top five construction companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 27.78% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s construction industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Mott MacDonald Group posted 21 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by Arup Group with 13 jobs and an 18.18% growth. SNC-Lavalin Group with 12 IT jobs and The British Land Co with 12 jobs, recorded a 9.09% growth and a 140% growth, respectively, while Cummins recorded an increase of 83.33% with 11 job postings during May 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 75.4%, down by 4.1% from April 2022. Entry Level positions with a 13.71% share, registered an increase of 25.93% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 7.66% share, down 20.83% over April 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 3.23%, recording a month-on-month increase of 100%.
