Canada’s construction industry registered a 20.0% rise in IT hiring activity in May 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 8.06% in May 2022 when compared with April 2022.

Out of the construction industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.81% share in May 2022, recording an increase of 0.14% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 62.5% in May 2022, registering a 47.06% growth over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 9.38% share, an increase of 25% over the previous month.

3) Computer and Information Analysts held a share of 8.75%, registering a 75% rise from April 2022.

4) Computer Support Specialists captured a share of 6.88%, up 10% over the previous month.

Top five construction companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 84.5% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s construction industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Komatsu posted 145 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a rise of 61.11% over the previous month, followed by PCL Constructors with 66 jobs and a 200% growth. Eaton Corporation with 11 IT jobs and WSP Global with 8 jobs, recorded an 83.33% growth and a 166.67% growth, respectively, while Hatch recorded a flat growth with 8 job postings during May 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 72.81%, up by 33.91% from April 2022. Entry Level positions with a 14.06% share, registered an increase of 95.65% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 12.5% share, up 29.03% over April 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.63%, recording a month-on-month decline of 33.33%.
